PedalScope 1.1

PedalScope 1.1 is on the Mac App Store, a free update to 1.0.

Libraries and pedals

Select several .pedalscope libraries in Finder and open them together: they import one after another, with a sheet that names each library and its place in the batch, and a Cancel that stops between them. The window stays usable while they import. In 1.0, only the first was imported.

A pedal’s name is now its model, with a Maker field beside it, and pedal lists show the maker. The sidebar sorts pedals by latest activity, name, date created or maker, and right-click acts on the whole selection.

A library shared from a later version of PedalScope can hold a kind of measurement this version does not know. Such a measurement now reads “Made by a newer version of PedalScope” instead of passing for another kind, and exports exactly as it is stored.

Calibrating and measuring

The Calibrate step shows the loop gain live while the test tone plays, so the interface’s input gain can be set against the last calibration made on that interface. Once a run starts, the session’s calibration is pinned.

Live Mode, the Transfer Curve, the Waveform Matrix and the Gain Map cut each capture at the loop latency the calibration measured. Each now checks that the response arrives where the calibration puts it; when it does not, the run stops and names both latencies, and nothing is saved. Recalibrating with the loop as it is now is the remedy.

Family runs take a capture note, a knob photo and the room temperature at each cell, and the next prompt shows what the last cell saved.

The charts

  • Chord IMD, on a capture whose notes did not stay still, no longer distrusts the whole capture: each product is read against the smear the moving notes are predicted to leave at its bin, and only those too close to it are marked unread.
  • Compare puts two records from calibrated interfaces on one input axis, in volts at the pedal input, and quotes its level differences in the same volts.
  • Distortion vs. Note marks the notes where the analyzer’s own residue, not the pedal, sets the reading.
  • Compression: an octave-up device’s card withholds its knee and cleanup and says why.
  • Transfer Curve reads input and output under the pointer, and E6 joins its drive notes.

PedalScope can also show a macOS notification when a measurement finishes or stops. It is off until you turn it on in Settings.

Nothing to migrate

Nothing about how measurements are stored changed, and a library 1.1 has opened still opens in 1.0. The first launch rebuilds the written summaries once and resets the main window’s size and position once. Every change is listed in What’s new.

The guide on this site now describes 1.1, and the methods documents name on their title pages the build they describe and end with what changed since the previous version.
